Spring Dampness-Dispelling Soup Recommendations: A TCM Practitioner Explains "Spring Fatigue" and 3 Spleen-Strengthening Recipes (With Cooking Instructions)

用粉葛、土茯苓、赤小豆及扁豆煲製的春天清熱祛濕養生湯水

Recently, the weather has been fluctuating between cold and warm, accompanied by frequent humidity and fog. This damp weather signifies that spring has officially arrived! Have you been feeling unusually drowsy, heavy-bodied, exhausted, and reluctant to move lately—so utterly sluggish that you wouldn't even pick up gold off the ground?

These various symptoms of "spring fatigue" (or "spring sleepiness") stem directly from heavy internal Dampness! Today, Practitioner Lee from Yin-Yang TCM Center (To Kwa Wan and Mei Foo clinics) will break down the causes of spring fatigue and introduce several simple, practical dampness-dispelling soups to help energize and revitalize you!

I. Why Do We Get "Spring Fatigue" So Easily? TCM Causes Explained

Spring is naturally a season of renewal, when Yang Qi begins to rise and flourish. The appearance of spring fatigue—characterized by low energy and lethargy—is primarily driven by three main factors:

  • Irregular Diet: Consuming too much raw, cold, chilled drinks, or overly greasy foods leads to the retention of Dampness evil inside the body.

  • Overwork & Internal Deficiency: Heavy workloads and inadequate sleep lead to a Qi-deficient constitution.

  • Spleen and Stomach Weakness: The Spleen governs the transformation and transportation of water-dampness. If the Spleen and Stomach are weak, the body's Yang Qi cannot properly ascend and flow in harmony with spring's natural growth energy. Dampness becomes trapped in the Spleen and Stomach, resulting in a sensation of heavy limbs, fatigue, and persistent drowsiness.
